When Fanny Moizant and Sophie Hersan founded Vestiaire Collective in 2009, they wanted to give people’s wardrobes a second life. Fast forward to today, and Vestiaire Collective has built a vast community of fashion lovers across the world, driving the circular fashion movement forward through innovative technology, ground-breaking campaigns, and designer brand partnerships.
At Vestiaire Collective, our operations revolve around four key pillars: Fashion, Trust, Community, and Impact. We provide curated fashion selections with verified authenticity, foster a global community of conscious enthusiasts, and actively minimize environmental impact through our circular fashion initiatives.
“Each of us has a role to play and should be extremely proud as we’re changing the way the world consumes fashion.” - Max Bittner, CEO
Today, we operate in 70+ countries, offering an unparalleled catalogue of 12,000+ luxury brands, with 35,000+ new items added every day and 6,500+ items shipped every week.
Founding of Vestiaire Collective
Originally called ‘Vestiaire de Copines’, Fanny Moizant, Sophie Hersan, and their collaborators launched the platform with 3,000 pre-loved fashion items sourced from friends and family.
International expansion
Vestiaire Collective began its international expansion with the UK in 2012, followed by the United States in 2014. Today, Vestiaire Collective operates in over 80 countries worldwide.
Welcoming Max as our CEO
Known for founding and leading Lazada Group, Max Bittner joined Vestiaire Collective as CEO in 2019, bringing with him a wealth of experience in driving business growth and innovation. His arrival marked a significant milestone in the business’ journey.
Key recognitions
In 2021, Vestiaire Collective was recognized as the 11th French Unicorn—and the first founded by two women—as part of the French Tech Next 40/120 list. During the same year, we raised more than €300 million in a funding round led by Kering, Tiger Global Management, SoftBank and Generation Investment Management. The following year, we became a certified B Corporation, the first fashion resale platform to receive the certification.
Commitment to Sustainable Fashion
2022 saw the start of our three-year initiative to ban fast fashion. The goal was to raise awareness about textile waste, with 60+ fast fashion brands banned from being bought, sold, or listed on the platform. A viral anti-overconsumption campaign followed in 2023, and we have big plans to grow the movement even more in 2025 and beyond.
We’re building a more sustainable future for fashion. One that doesn’t love it less, but more.
Because the future of fashion demands more: More caring. More commitment. More circularity. More creativity. More community. More people like you.
The more our collective grows, the bigger our impact. That’s why we empower every fashion enthusiast to join our cause. Those who don’t only wear fashion, but live it. Those who don’t only take care of their styles for a season, but for life.
We need people who live for fashion. So that together, we can make it live forever.
As the first fashion resale platform to ban ultra fast fashion, we're determined to push for tighter regulations for clothing producers and brands. But we can’t change the fashion industry on our own. That’s why we create long-term partnerships with like-minded brands to help offer Resale as a Service, so their clients can enjoy a circular shopping experience.
We share inspirational educational content to help our community to buy less and buy better by investing in longer-lasting, higher-quality items.
The more diverse we are, the stronger we are. 67+ nationalities are represented at Vestiaire Collective, and in our most recent employee survey, 80% said they feel empowered to authentically express themselves at work.
"Less is more is my philosophy" - Fanny
